Charles Lindsay

Charles Lindsay, our special guest and keynote speaker, is equally comfortable deep in the rain forest, or sitting in a high tech laboratory, pondering deep space and deep time. He comes to us from the SETI Institute, where he is the Director of their Artist-in-Residence program. But people in the Tri-State region are probably more familiar with Lindsay from his work “Rocket Brain” in a recent exhibit at Mass MoCA, “Explode Every Day: an Inquiry into the Phenomena of Wonder,” or perhaps from his book of cameraless photography, “Carbon,” which he produced during a Guggenheim Fellowship.

Lindsay will be presenting in the Indian Mountain School auditorium at 10:30 am, sharing a small sampling of the wide-ranging work he has undertaken in his career, including the years he spent with the indigenous people on the island of Pulau Siberut in Indonesia, which resulted in the book “Mentawai Shaman: Keeper of the Rain Forest,” and his “CODE Humpback” project, which explored the relationship between encoding of information and inter-species communication.

We look forward to seeing you there!
