Thanks To All For a Beautiful Day!
On behalf of the organizers of the Tri-State Mini Maker Faire, I just want to extend our thanks to everyone who helped make our second year such a big success!
It was a beautiful sunny day, which was a huge boon for our outdoor events, especially Ravenbane’s FireCraft with their amazing show and the MakerSpace CT crew with their awesome Air Rocket launch! Plus we had the Tinker Truck crew and their rubber band powered car project, which was a big hit with many of our smaller makers.
Inside, we had an even bigger selection of hands-on projects than last year: everything from bead-making with Dolores Coan and weaving with Undermountain Weavers, to flower-arranging with Kamilla’s Floral Boutique and button-making with the folks from artGarage. Plus there were local businesses like Volta Guitars and 4corners, who make custom millwork right across the state line in Millerton, NY. We also had representatives from SCORE Northwest Connecticut and Northwest Connect engaging folks in conversation about how to successfully manage a small business and how to bring broadband Internet up into the Litchfield Hills.
Our keynote speaker Charles Lindsay took us on a round trip from the rain forest to the stars and back. I even got to take a go at experiencing the world antennae-first, using my Johnston’s Organ just like a real fruit fly, thanks to New York-based artist Dana Hemes!

And to top it off, we had a wide range of student projects from the Hotchkiss School‘s Physical Computing students and the Innovation Club, to Indian Mountain students selling homemade slime in a panoply of colors, to Salisbury School students with a, plus the Housatonic Valley Regional High School‘s robotics team, the Who’sCTEKs.

Such a diverse group of makers, and our attendees told us that that was their favorite part of the Maker Faire!
Our Maker Faire wrapped at 3 pm yesterday and, with the help of our student volunteers from Hotchkiss School and Indian Mountain School, we were able to clean everything up and help all our makers clear out by 4 pm.
So, thanks again to everyone who took part. After such an action-packed day, I’m sure we all slept like babies—I know I did!
